Locws International, the organisation responsible for Art Across The City in Swansea, has announced the shortlist for its inaugural Public Art Open Submission. The ten shortlisted artists were chosen from submissions by artists based in the UK, South Africa, Denmark, USA, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Sweden.
The shortlist features a varied collection of proposals, from sound works based on railway tracks to a colourful stairway to heaven. Locws International Project Manager Gordon Dalton said: “We were very impressed by the wide range of submitted proposals, who all approached the public realm in Swansea in inventive ways.”
The ten shortlisted artists are: Maria Zahle; Lisa Scantlebury; Mark Houghton; Hilary Jack; David Cushway; James Iles; Anne Deeming; Cath Campbell; Jeremy Millar; and DPRS (Gaston Bertin and Alvaro Campo).
With the help of gallerist Ceri Hand and the artist David Blandy, Locws International will now select one proposal, which will appear as part of the 2014 Art Across The City programme. The chosen artists will be announced in mid-September.
This latest instalment of 2013 Art Across the City programme, featuring new commissions by Jacob Dahlgren, Juneau Projects, Matthew Houlding, and Laura Sorvala, runs in Swansea from 6 September to 6 October.
