A range of galleries, museums and other cultural venues will stage late night openings for three days from this evening as part of the UK’s annual Museums at Night event, organised by Culture 24.

Among the many highlights from the 700 or so events are a game of hide and seek with Turner Prize winner and ‘people’s potter’ Grayson Perry. He will be visiting the Yorkshire Museum on his exuberantly-coloured motorbike accompanied by his life-long companion, a teddy bear named Alan Measles, for a discussion on art, collections and tomfoolery.

In Nottingham, the Grade II listed St Ann’s Allotments will be welcoming internationally reknowned photographer Rankin, with a hired marquee functioning as a studio by day and pop-up gallery by night. Locals and volunteers will be able to sit for portraits at three different locations. There will also be a Q&A session with Rankin and an independent local cinema will be showcasing the results of the sittings in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, Letterpress devotee Mr Smith, whose workshop is located in Kennington, South London, will be taking one of of his smaller printing machines out to Walthamstow for an after-hours event at the William Morris Museum. Visitors will also have a hand in creating some wallpaper or posters based on texts by Morris, pioneer of the legendary Arts and Craft movement.

Alex Hartley, meanwhile, will be at the Market Hall Museum in Warwick on Friday, staging a grand fayre where nothing is for sale and no-one is promoting goods or services. A full guide to events taking place over the three days can viewed here.
