The National Open Art Competition has announced the shortlisted artists in this year’s exhibition, which will be opened by the artist Gavin Turk at Somerset House, London on 18 September.
The 27 shortlisted artists featured in the show, now in its 18th year, were chosen from submissions from across the UK and include paintings, drawings, print work, photography, wall installations and computer-generated art.
This year’s panel of judges includes: Norman Ackroyd RA, printmaker; Vanessa Branson, founder Marrakech Biennale; Caroline Irby, photographer; and Chris Orr RA, printmaker and draughtsman.
The winners of this year’s awards, with prize money totalling £60,000, will be announced on 24 September.
After the Somerset House exhibition, winning works will tour to Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2–14 December), with all the works then showing at the Minerva Festival Theatre, Chichester (17 December – 4 January). The best works on paper will be exhibited at The Works on Paper Fair (5–8 February 2015) at The Science Museum.
