Creative Scotland has announced the appointment of four new directors. The appointments follow a statement in October that signaled a new senior staff structure for Scotland’s arts and creative industries funding body.

The new directors are: Leonie Bell, Director of Arts & Engagement; Philip Deverell, Director of Strategy; Gerard Kelly, Director of Funding Operations; and Ian Stevenson, Director of Finance.

The Director of Strategy post is a fixed-term appointment for 12 months and is the only entirely new post. A Director of Film & Media is still to be recruited. Bell – who became Interim Director of Creative Development in May – and Stevenson – Acting Director of Finance since April – will take up their posts with immediate effect, while Deverell and Kelly will start in January.

Deverell joins the organisation from Arts Council England, where for the last five years he has been Director of Grants for the arts, the organisation’s Lottery-funded grants programme. Before joing ACE, Deverell had a long career in theatre.

Kelly has a background in corporate governance and strategy development. Between 2000 and 2012 he established and then led Scottish Enterprise Investments and The Scottish Investment Bank, following two years as Assistant Director of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in Scotland.

Creative Scotland CEO Janet Archer said of the appointments: “They bring a high level of experience and expertise in their respective fields and an ambition and passion for the arts, screen and creative industries in Scotland. All are excited at the prospect of working for an organisation that champions the intrinsic value of arts and culture as well as the commercial creative sectors.

“These appointments further strengthen our senior team, enabling us to better serve the people and organisations that we are here to support.”
