Inventing Impressionism, National Gallery, London
This exhibition explores Paul Durand-Ruel, the entrepreneurial art dealer who discovered major Impressionists including Monet, Degas, Manet, Renoir, Pissarro and Sisley. Featuring 85 masterpieces from the movement, all but one of which passed through Durand-Ruel’s hands.

Superior Goods and Household Gods, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester
Part of Wonder Women, a Manchester-wide festival of feminism, this group exhibition responds to ‘the pervasive nature of dominant ideologies and their effects on our desire’ and is co-curated with North West-based artist Sarah Hardacre. The show includes sculpture, collage, performance and video from Hardacre, Adham Faramawy, Hannah Farrell, Margaret Harrison, Arnold Pollock, and Suzanne Posthumus.

Possibilities of the Object, Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh
This sculpture show connects the work of well-known and widely exhibited Brazilian artists such as Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark and Mira Schendel with that of some of their lesser-known contemporaries and the younger generation of artists that followed. Curated by Paulo Venancio Filho, it traces developments from the 1950s onwards.

Edo Pop: Urban Heroes in Japan 1830-1890, Mercer North Gallery, Harrogate
This intriguing exhibition of 19th century Ukiyo-e wood block prints explores the celebrities, actors, sportsmen, fashion icons, heroes and villains of the country during a period of censorship. Mass produced at the time, the works on show are from the private collection of writer and lecturer Frank Milner.
