Create London, in partnership with the Guardian, the Barbican, Goldsmiths University and British Art Show 8, has launched a survey into the arts.

The research team, composed of academics from the University of Sheffield, Goldsmiths University and LSE, will publish and present their findings as part of the Panic! ten-day programme of events in November.

The sector-wide survey invites cultural practitioners working in all areas of the arts to share their experiences around how they live, work and survive – and how they got to where they are now.

Panic! asks the question ‘What happened to social mobility in the arts?’ and will include a series of live debates, music and film events, plus contemporary art commissions such as Ahmet Ogut‘s ongoing research project, Day After Debt, that interrogates student debt.

A visual campaign for Panic!, to be launched in October, has been conceived by the graphic designer and art director Peter Saville and will feature iconic faces from the arts tagged with their parents’ occupation.

Seeking to promote and embody models of social mobility, the Panic! programme also delivers 20 work placement schemes for young people.

The Panic! survey is live until 18 October 2015. Panic! events programme takes place 26 November – 5 December 2015
