The a-n/AIR Paying Artists campaign, which seeks to ensure that visual artists are paid for exhibiting work in publicly funded galleries, has launched two online surveys as part of an ongoing consultation process.

The surveys – one for artists and one for galleries and curators – have been created to ensure that a broad range of opinions are represented in the debate around artists’ fees.

The information and views gathered through the surveys will help shape exhibition fee guidelines which will then be tested with the sector later this year.

a-n executive director Jeanie Scott said: “Since the launch of the Paying Artists campaign in May 2014 we have been creating opportunities for artists, galleries, funders and policy makers to discuss artists’ pay through a number of consultations, workshops and round tables.

“So far our consultation has identified broad support for paying artists, as well as agreement on the difficulties of finding a single, sector-wide solution to exhibition fees considering the varying sizes and capacities of galleries.

“The online surveys are an important part of this consultation process and are designed to ensure that as many voices as possible are represented.”

The deadline for both surveys is 20 March 2015.
