This week sees more creative campaigning from the Paying Artists Regional Advocates, with events taking place in two cities. The latest activity follows a raft of events across the UK on the May bank holiday weekend.

On Friday 15 May, the #FollowTheCake parade in Liverpool will see a giant cake transported across the city. Organised by Hannah BitowskiFlis Mitchell and Kevin Hunt, the parade will culiminate with the cake being awarded to a publicly-funded organisation that shows good practice in paying artists.

Next, on Tuesday 19 May, it’s Birmingham’s turn with an event at Eastside Projects. Self Service presents: Not paying artists is bad for you… Discuss is organised by Cheryl Jones and Ruth Claxton. It will be an evening of quick-fire provocations and public discussion to explore what a fair pay policy for artists in the city might be.

There’ll also be more activity in Cardiff over the next two weeks, with Paying Artists’ posters appearing around the city. A collaboration between artists S Mark Gubb and Sean Edwards, the poster follows research and discussions by the pair.
