The Manchester Contemporary opens in the Spinningfields area of the city on Friday, with its focus on emerging artists from the UK and beyond. Curatorial Coordinator for the fair is Manchester-based gallery The International 3, led by artists Paulette Terry Brien and Laurence Lane.
Launched in 2009, The Manchester Contemporary looks to encourage and develop a market for critically engaged contemporary art in the North West. The event takes place each year alongside sister fair Buy Art Fair.
Invited exhibitors at The Manchester Contemporary 2012 include Ceri Hand Gallery, Bureau, Seventeen and Workplace Gallery. The Project Room space will include Manchester-based Paper Gallery, exhibiting at the fair for the first time and showing a new suite of prints by John Moores prize winner Narbi Price. Other newcomers include Rob Tufnell, ROKEBY and Ann-Marie Ros Projects, a Dutch curator/project organisor who will be representing a selection of Dutch and American artists.
A programme of talks and guided tours organised by Contemporary Art Society will take place across the weekend including speakers from Chinese Arts Centre and Castlefield Gallery, as well as co-founder of Paper Gallery, artist David Hancock.
