Whoops!

This blog post seems to have become detached from it's parent blog!

I was choosing the photos to be in a digital portfolio for assessment next month, and it was an opportunity to look closer at the photos of the metal sheets. I agree with what Mona said in the last tutorial. The metal sheets look too clean and pristine especially against the white backdrop.

Thinking back to the digital work with the bra photoshopped onto the shapes (Part Objects I). I think the digital fails to engage with the material aspects of the work, even though it offers a fast approach to making work. The bra is seen as having a different texture to the shapes, but it’s only an artificial appearance. The essence along with tactility that is inherent in the material is sourced from the physicality of the items, and not ones manufactured from computer.

For the metal sheets, I’m going to drip washing up liquid on them, with the white backdrop, so that there’s a disruption of cleanliness with a substance that’s disgusting to touch, but is also oddly something that makes items clean.
