Gillian Holding

  I am a contemporary visual artist working in a range of digital and conventional media. Through my practice, I am exploring perceptions of reality in modern society, frequently accompanied by absurdity and contradiction. I am always conscious that even at my most receptive, I start - like many - by seeing the world around me from within my own personal and cultural context. My attempts to see outside and beyond this prism underpin much of my work. Through decontextualisation, juxtaposition and re-framing of visual imagery, assumptions are challenged and alternative 'realities' may be perceived.
