Jon Lockhart

I am a visual artist (www.jonlockhart.com) and teacher, working with galleries, schools and community groups (www.thinklockhart.com). I am currently also working on a PhD at The University of Reading looking at the use of emergent technology in art education (www.readingartlab.com) I am interested in the mechanics of teaching and learning, in particular with techniques that immerse participants in rich, multifaceted creative experiences. My research is looking at the use of models and processes from theatre, industry, ceramics and technology, that can be used in arts educational settings. The focus is on how a 'non-expert' can re- purpose ideas form other fields into creative, experiential, pedagogical approaches, that champion collectivism as opposed to a 'race to the top' for individuals. My studio practice involves working with other partners including musicians, film makers, industry and craftspeople. My most recent project 'The Boundless Museum' was supported by Arts Council England and premiered at Reading Museum, Berkshire before touring ACE South-East venues. Among many other organisations, I have worked with Modern Art Oxford, most notably on Their Paul Hamlyn funded 'Art in Rose Hill' project. This led to the exhibition, symposium and publication 'Manual Labour - Engaging with Contemporary Art Through Collaborative Activity' I believe it will be an invaluable, thought provoking and wildly attractive opportunity to share ideas, experience new thoughts, challenge old ones and to continue stretch myself within the context of engaged practice.
