Katrina Brown (UK/NL) is an interdisciplinary choreographer working hybrid across performance and drawing; presenting work in theatre, gallery and on the artist page (material and digital). She works both solo and in collaboration, including with choreographer Rosanna Irvine in their performance-installation 'what remains and is to come' (performed at Tramway Glasgow, Karst Plymouth, Backlit Gallery/Dance4 Nottingham and other European venues) and the Arts Council funded artist book 'what remains and is to come; a document'. Their video-installation 'surface/sphere' was commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance for the 2016 Festival 'What Remains: Anatomy of an Artist'. Katrina began exploring choreographic organisations of moving-drawing during the Masters Programme Choreography and New Media at Theatre School Amsterdam 2004-2006, through a series of performance events and a website project 'Moving-Drawing: An Archive of Traces'. Since 2009 she is Senior Lecturer Dance & Choreography at Falmouth University. Her practice-based PhD 'intersect/surface/body: A Choreographic View of Drawing' (2017) investigated drawing as a choreographic activity; proposing a quiet political presence of a performing body as a material amongst other materials, surfaces and bodies. In 2017 she had a series of workshops, residencies that explored body-place-score in relation to (dis) orientation and rhythmic impressions including at CAST Cornwall and Silainia-project, Kaunas, Lithuania. She was documenting presence between modes of moving, drawing, writing, installing from which artist publications were made. Her new hybrid project 'tilt/rhythm/back' will explore a body's relationship to the 'dorsal' through a series of 'dances', 'drawings', 'writings' and 'labs'. Proposing the 'dorsal' as a resistant playful intervention to our relentless contemporary forward motion, the project is interested in how physical and philosophical ideas coincide in the body and in moving together. www.katrinabrown.net Devon UK
