Kye Wilson
I am an award-winning visual artist and filmmaker who uses moving image to create films, video art and installations, including multi-disciplinary, site-specific, and live artworks. My works have been performed, exhibited and screened nationally and internationally.
My practice is primarily research-based, exploring space, self and other, my artworks challenge notions of absence and presence, and real versus simulated.
My work focusses on how technology can help to explore the embodiment of people and places. I use specialised equipment and innovative filmmaking techniques to enable audiences to engage with these identities and bring their own self and experiences to the artworks.
Embedded in my practice is the fusion of live and mediated experiences that explore the human condition and the liminal space between the ‘real’ and ‘virtual’. By interweaving live audience engagement with emergent technologies my artworks challenge preconceived notions of body and place.
My mission is to challenge public perceptions about contemporary art and technology by striving for the highest standards in both creativity and collaboration.
I have a comprehensive track record of delivering large-scale projects that marry quality art with technology and diverse community engagement, empowering those with limited or no access to art.
I have an MA in Fine Art with distinction (University of Portsmouth) and have received a variety of commissions and awards including ‘Best video art work’, Madrid Festival of Contemporary Audio-Visual Arts and ‘Best film’, Undercover Surrealism exhibition, Hayward Gallery.
