Working across media and disciplines Nayan Kulkarni is concerned with the production of place and atmosphere principally through light, video and sound installation. Often through extended engagements with their landscapes, communities and histories, projects grow from responses to specific places and localities. His research is diverse, for example historical archival material, appropriated film fragments, vernacular musical scores, extending to collaborative projects examining colonial architectures and landscapes. His artworks span multimedia installations that fill buildings, cover architectures and infiltrate landscapes, and can shift to the intimacy of improvised solo works for piano. London
