Rosalyn Burgin
After an initial career as a professional sailor I did a degree in Fine Art at University for the Creative Arts graduating in 2002. I have been exhibiting in sculpture parks, galleries and festivals as well as making site-responsive and site-specific pieces and installations for alternative locations. I am interested in sustainability particularly of the marine environment and women's role in society and accordingly I make pieces that advocate for social change.
I often make artwork using found material/objects, used as a whole or in parts, selected because of their intrinsic qualities, aesthetics and former function. I adapt and take on new working methods accordingly employing a variety of processes to develop new pieces and work out my ideas which both informs and influcences the final artworks.
I have an ongoing series of work called Thames Drawings based on a specific stretch the River Thames from Teddington Lock to the Barrier, a 42-mile stretch of tidal water. I am creating new pieces in response to different characteristics of the River and the idea of value.
