Susana Lopez Fernandez
Susana López is a visual artist from Gijón, Spain. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts (Painting) and a PhD, both from the University of Barcelona.
Her subjects are taken from, and inspired by, personal experiences in the city and her daily life. Susana tries to communicate through her pictures the history, architecture, consumerism and even immigration patterns of a city. She seeks to reveal these from a distance that reflects an objective and striking honesty.
A few years ago, she discovered the power of social media which allowed her to expand her aims and engage on a wider digital platform. She loves using Twitter and her personal blog diffuses her projects, making her images, views and personal experiences accessible to everyone.
Her work is in private and public collections and is been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Spain and abroad. She recently took part in Venice Biennale, at the Cervantes Institute in Sofia, 1aSpace in Hong Kong, The Other Art Fair in London, PointB in Brooklyn, NY or Woman Made Gallery in Chicago.
She studied Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, at Barcelona University, from where she also holds a PhD. Soon after, Susana travelled to London, New York or London to complete her studies and her camera travelled with her to capture her movements. Step by step, this hobby turned into her main body of work and she changes brushes for the cameras.
Susana’s artistic focus explores how the surface of the photograph is a modern day canvas to capture the ‘routine’, and transform it into something exceptional.
Photography is much more than a simple image. Photography is a way of feeling life, it is a way of living reality, it is a way of living the world.
Currently, her mission is to catch the beauty of a city with each shot of her camera in a bid to capture the unnoticed aspects of city life that we all often are too busy to realize it.
For me, photography is a different thing. I feel passionate about photography, it is an art to taste the reality, it is the pleasure of intimate moments.
My aim is to stop time and discover the authenticity of our existence. Photography is a way of life.

I love this artisan way and I try to keep it when I print the images. Digital progress has converted photography in a mechanical process.
The digital camera is only a tool, as a brush can be, to express myself. It is during the production that it becomes art.
Her work exists in gallery collections, town halls, cultural associations, and in collective and solo exhibitions in Spain and abroad. She recently showed her work in 1aSpace in Hong Kong, in Debut Contemporary in London or in PointB in Brooklyn, NY.
