Using two London-based case studies, provides insight into the necessity, requirements and characteristics of affordable workspace in terms of community, cultural and socio-economic benefit. Affordable studio providers in London charge rents which are on average one third of those for physically comparable space on the open market. Demonstrates how artists support their practice by working in education, training and community development and how this helps to address social exclusion, offending, health and learning.
