Published by a-n/AIR and DHA Communications, Building a clearer relationship between artists and galleries draws on research and consultation undertaken with the sector since the launch of the Paying Artists campaign in May 2014. The document includes a draft exhibition fee framework for paying artists who exhibit in publicly-funded galleries, alongside guidelines and recommendations. Informed through the findings of the 2015 Paying Artists consultation survey, the draft exhibition fee framework balances three fundamental principles: artists need to make a professional income; galleries need to fulfil exhibition programmes; the ability of galleries to pay.
