Widely read paper commissioned by a consortium of 12 visual arts organisations of similar size in London (Common Practice). It articulates the value of small visual arts organisations within the wider arts ecology; explores the significant potential these organisations have in the present cultural landscape and economy, and details the operational and investment challenges they face in realising this; and advocates a reconsideration of present assessment and investment practices.
