Mark Neville: The Jump Films

I am a visual artist based in Glasgow, graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1989 and Glasgow School of Art MFA course in 1997. I am interested in making artworks out-with regular gallery spaces and exploring possibilities created through undertaking residencies in different locations, in collaboration or interaction with other people. My artworks often use collage techniques, digital photography and assemblage to re-appropriate cultural references and signifiers. My work often explores the psychological intersection between visual and aural cultures, often working with spoken word performance, and reflecting an increasing interest in politics and activism. I have worked in a freelance capacity for over ten years after working as a part time lecturer and as a full time Gallery Manager. Recent residencies include a Creative Lab at CCA Glasgow, 2012: a Collaborative Residency for Counterflows Music Festival 2013, with Berlin based Musician, Annette Krebs, at CCA Creative Lab; a Rough Mix cross platform collaborative residency for Magnetic North Theatre Co, at Tramway March 2013; a Protest and Propaganda Lab at Metal Liverpool; and a Team Effort residency at South Side Studios, Govanhill, Glasgow. Previously I have undertaken residencies at Callendar House, Falkirk; a Boatelier Residency on the Rochdale Canal; Self Help Graphics, Los Angeles; Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Neonatal Unit; Shining Cliff International Residency, Nottingham; and Generator Projects, Dundee. Curatorial projects include Record Store; HALLelujah!; The Consequence video screenings, Lowsalt Gallery; and 'Sh[out] Documents Website for GOMA.
