As I mentioned previously I visited Miami last year to undertake research into seaside moderne architecture on Miami Beach built during the 1930s. There are several hundred buildings constructed in this style between the early 1930s and 1940s within Miami […]
I am carrying on with my studio still-life studies. Originally I was going to take a no frills approach and keep it pure and simple. However as I look and as I work, I find it impossible to do so. […]
A daily-ish blog of spontaneous, graphic effusions of unrestrained mark-making, plus one descriptive word. This will be accompanied by an occasional technique log.
My degree show will be feature in the dark space under complete darkness to show the fairy-lights and under UV making the dots and nails glow out of the darkness. I chose to include Kurt (Hawk) to be the first […]
This really didn’t go as well as I was hoping though the meaning and it really shows the point behind the image of a soldiers kit and the many holes that I drilled into the wood displaying the scars and […]
I really love this piece because unlike the Day of the Dead piece I made the holes more bigger and that it a lot easier when it came to attach the lights and taking clear photos. I love that the […]
Chances, Decisions and Possibilities As I continue on with my treatment for breast cancer, I can’t help but think about how things happen and why. Also how it is approached and presented to you by the medical profession. At the […]
After seeing how well the elephant string went I decided that I wanted to put a black, solid background with a couple of colourful swirls imprinted in it to make the background pop and bold, I then chose to divide […]
The coloured background really made the piece vibrant and decorative similar to that of Chris Ofili, the colours weren’t overpowering and blended well together but it made it difficult to see the image in which the holes had made and […]
Afrodizzia (2nd version) is a painting made of acrylic, oil, resin, paper collage, glitter, map pins and elephant dung on canvas. It is almost the same to Homage, part from the fact it has a collage element to it showing […]
The sketches done at Ipswich Museum lend to be linked in with one piece of my work in the form of the mandala lion piece called Lionel, not only is the image taken from a tattoo but the idea of […]
Visiting Christchurch Mansion and Ipswich Museum I was inspired to look at just simple but exciting objects that could inspire me to create ideas for my much larger pieces, using these images as a starting point and maybe looking at […]
Readiness Where do I start? It appears that my art musings are somewhat patchy yet again. However I do feel that there is a connection and a convergence in a way which I will try to explain. I was recently […]
Working on this piece was quite difficult and also a really fun experience and those little dots really gave the piece character and emotion. It wasn’t easy when it came to take photos because the dots were so tiny but […]
Chris Ofili goes on to say ““Often in the end a finished painting would be constructed from lots of other paintings underneath, I tried to think of a way of working where all of those layers could coexist without cancelling […]
Perry goes on to say “A narrow pilgrimage trail across the infinite plain of the world” (Perry, 2005, pg252) that even though the journey is long, tough and hard the progress of learning new skills and experience can help you […]
The following works are currently at the digital montage stage. As yet I have not decided whether I will let them remain like this or introduce mixed media to the proceedings. These images began from photographs of some of my […]
Drawing breath I am thinking about drawing and trying to write about it. The task turned out to be far from simple. I have been surprised how little I know and can explain, how much more I know tacitly than […]
I started using encaustics because I was looking for a way to trap marks beneath thick translucent layers of paint, without having to rely on the largely plastic and unnatural qualities of acrylic.
The investigation of repeat pattern forms the basis of my work which fits somewhere between experimental textiles and product design.
Physics and maths, as much as art, have always served as subjects that speak my own language.
