Getting the Project Rolling
Over the past few weeks, I have had a few calls (and another set up for tomorrow) with a variety of people, in order to try and get the Rewilding project moving properly. Although they didn’t all take quite the […]

Update: 18/01/22: The petition is going pretty well, considering I haven’t pushed it so much yet. I am starting to use it when emailing people about the project (so other organisations, etc., and I will return to pushing it shortly, once I […]
The above screenshot shows the initial plan that I have made for my project – something that is easily actionable and which is also effective and manageable. I am really pleased with the steps that I have outlined, and will […]
Following on from my call with Amy yesterday, I have decided to work on starting and planning my project today. The first step that I have taken, is to start an instagram page for the rewilding project, where I will […]
As I have started to work through my ‘official’ list of plants, I am now also thinking about my rewinding project, and how to get that kickstarted. I have quite a bit of experience in planning smaller, one off actions, […]
I opened the back of my car and noticed a lot of leaves and as soon as I saw them, I realised how they had got there and noted they had been there for two days and I brushed them […]
My Walks My walks have an element of Forest Bathing it is true, I have grown to need the whole woodland experience. The feeling of walking through the forest is very important. Not walking around it, looking at it from […]
I saw a pheasant, a rabbit and a spotted woodpecker this morning and heard an owl this evening, as I have been up the woods twice today. That’s not unusual I also noticed in what seems to be only a […]
This was always going to happen and it will happen more frequently now. It is a nudge closer on the way to fully accepting that things will never be the same. I dont know why I was miffed, I guess […]
I think its Beech Trees that have this burnt orange glow that produces an immersive overall effect that is very powerful. I have been walking in the woods a lot recently with the colours getting richer by the day, where […]
The drawing above is some kind of response to being lost in the woods. There are basically three sections to the ‘neutral zone’ in this wilding experiment, the bottom, the middle and the top. The top is actually the southernmost […]
The past few days me and Fred have walked in Thornden Woods which will be part of the Wilder Blean project but acting as a neutral zone with no introductions. West Blean will have the animals introduced but these woods […]
Just enjoying the colours These are brambles
After the wrestling match the other day I was a little apprehensive of taking Fred back into the woods this morning, but my worries of a repeat performance didn’t happen. I saw a very autumnal yellowy orange tree which seemed […]
I have walked near enough every day for over fifteen years in West Blean and Thornden Woods with two different dogs and I have ridden my mountain bike with friends and explored these woods before the Highland Cattle and Konic […]
It has become ever harder to walk in these woods for several reasons, and today I found parking my car difficult. We parked some distance down the approach road and followed a signed footpath which took us across the back […]
The Wilder Blean Project will introduce large herbivores onto the site which include European Bison as the headline act, along with Long Horn Cattle and Ponies and Iron Age Pigs. This experiment is happening a mile or two away from […]
This blog might be a goodbye tribute, perhaps it serves as a way of coming to terms with change because of a new ecological experiment in my local woodlands in a very important woodland SSSI site close to where I live. This is a place I know extremely well with a changing future.
